There are five major components of physical fitness.  The first one is cardiovascular fitness.  This is the fitness needed for the physical tasks that we accomplish throughout the day.

The second component is muscular strength.  This is also needed for everyday tasks like carrying, lifting amd moving.

The third one is muscular endurance which means simply how long the muscles can do something without getting too tired to finish.

Flexibility is another component.  It is critical in protecting  joints and keeping them healthy.

The last component is body composition.  This shows the percentage of fat in your body compared to lean mass.  This will be greatly impacted by your level of fitness.

Physical activity is an important factor in the maintenance of  health and a healthy weight and also in the sense of well being in the life of a human being.

Regular physical activity increases the fitness of an individual.  This, in turn, helps to meet the demands of daily work and play.  Also, those with greater levels of fitness have a decreased risk of developing chronic disease.

There is a relationship between a sedentary lifestyle and health risks such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.   Mortality rates are higher in the sedentary than in the physically active.

General recommendations for health and well being as well as a healthy weight are as follows.  It is prudent for anyone starting a fitness program to get approval from a physician.   Start with thirty minutes a day of moderate activity.  The intensity of your workout can be increased as fitness improves.  The goal is to increase activity to sixty minutes on most days of the week.

An ideal workout should include stretching to improve flexibility, resistance training and cardiovascular training.

Weight management is not the only goal of increased physical activity.  We now have studies that show an improvement in mental health with adequate physical activity.  This means that it can be a relief for depression and anxiety.

There are techniques that can help increase physical activity.  Any activity that is active and takes you away from such sedentary things as television and video games will play an important part in the overall increase of activity.

Individuality needs to be considered in starting a program.  Fitness methods used by one person may not work well for another.  Physique and health conditions vary from one person to another.  A well planned workout will take this into consideration.

A personal trainer or a good gym can be very helpful to those who need  individual instruction.

Remember that even a good walk is a wonderful beginning.
